Royal Oak hair salon was created as a space to help spread creative expression. One way we foster that is by working with local artists and providing them with a space to exhibit their work.
ART
LATENCIAS
Castillo’s work exists in the space between image and word, between memory and figuration, between atony and sensation.
For the word weaves through time and evokes images. In this case, they intertwine to create osmosis and silences.
Although the photographic image as such is capable of expressing and representing itself without words, and words are capable of expressing images, this project aims to be a poetic exploration in which image and word create ambivalent memories within a lyrical world where the viewer is their own memory and their own experience.
At first glance, it is clear that there is no “literal” relationship between the image and the word, which creates a tension and a silence for the viewer; yet this is not a final silence, but rather a mediating, transitory silence—a silence born of an inner poetry that lends it an evocative meaning, inviting the viewer to discover and seek out a sensation or mood.
Castillo does not aim to tell self-contained stories through his images, as each one has its own structure; rather, they simply complement one another as part of the creative process the artist employs.
For the artist, the exhibition setup is crucial to conveying this poetry, which blends image and word; that is why he aims to present the work as an installation featuring images in various formats and media, along with handwritten texts.
